Thai Prime Minister’s Twitter account hacked

Thailand’s first woman Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s ‘Twitter’ account has been hacked, a government spokesperson said.

According to government spokeswoman Thitima Chaisaeng, Prime Minister Shinawatra’s account was hacked into Sunday morning, and the Information and Communication Technology Ministry is investigating into the matter.

In fact, Ms. Yingluck’s Twitter account has been used to post questions about her competence, particularly in regard to her handling of the recent floods that killed some 40 people and rendered nearly 1.5 million people homeless.

At least eight false tweets accused her of cronyism and various failures. One questioned her promise to give tablet computers to school children, suggesting she concentrate on education reform instead.

“This country is a business. We work for our allies, not for the Thai people. We work for those who support us, not those who differ with us,” another read.

The final post read: “If she can’t even protect her own Twitter account, how can she protect the country?”

Ms. Yingluck won a clear victory in July, but is accused by her critics of being a puppet of her brother, former Premier Thaksin Shinawatra who was thrown out of office in a 2006 military coup.

Twitter boasts of 100 million active users

Micro-blogging site Twitter has long been regarded as the hottest platform for letting people know what you’re doing. Now the San Francisco-based communications company has the statistics to prove it, touting the fact on Thursday that it now has 100 million monthly active users.

Twitter CEO Dick Costolo divulged the user numbers at a press conference at the company’s headquarters, where he also revealed that Twitter has 50 million users who log on to the service each day. He said the site’s count of monthly active users is up 82 per cent compared to January and that Twitter is projecting to add another 26 million users before the end of the year.

Twitter still has a long way to go before it catches up to Facebook’s 750 million users, but there’s one thing the company won’t do to boost its numbers: raise the 140 character limit on tweets.

“No,” tweeted Mr. Costolo. “We are going to offer simplicity in a world of complexity.”

55. Tweeting link of some good pictures and breaking news get viral most of the times. You can also tweet about a new job or event.

56. Offer some free stuffs for following you. I have seen some people doing this, and not surprisingly, they have a lot of followers. But once you get people following you, its all about providing value and retaining them as your followers.
