Can I See If My Facebook Friend Request Was Denied?

Facebook allows its users to send requests for friendship, enabling you to read and comment on others’ posts. When you send a request to become friends with someone, that person has the option to accept or deny the request. If your friend request was denied, you will not receive notification, but you can check on the status from the recipient’s profile page.

Checking Pending Requests

To check to see if a friend request you sent has been denied or is still pending, navigate to the recipient’s Facebook page. If you see an “Awaiting friend confirmation” message, your friend request is still pending. However, if you see “Add as Friend,” it is not pending, which means that the recipient has denied your request.
Canceling a Friend Request

If you’ve sent a friend request that has been pending for some time, the recipient may have overlooked it. You can cancel the friend request and resubmit it or, if you’ve changed your mind, you can simply cancel the request altogether. To cancel a pending request, navigate to the other person’s profile, scroll below his profile picture and find the “Cancel Friend Request” option, When you click it, Facebook indicates that the friend request has been canceled.
Denying a Friend Request

If you’ve received a friend request from someone you do not wish to add to your friends list, you can deny the request, The sender will not receive notification, though he can determine whether or not you denied the request by viewing your profile page, as described in Section 1. To deny a friend request, navigate to your requests screen and click “Not Right Now” next to the request. This action removes the request from your list. It won’t reappear unless it is reissued by the sender.
Blocking Friend Requests

Some Facebook profile pages do not accept friend requests due to the user’s customized privacy settings. If you wish to block others from sending you friend requests, click “Privacy Settings” from the “Account” drop-down menu of your Facebook profile. Navigate to the “Connecting on Facebook” section and click “View settings.” Change the field for “Send you friend requests” to your desired setting.
